Forensic scientists. 25 years. One mission.
DrugLab118 grew out of forensic laboratory science into a global mission — led by named scientists and advocates with the credentials to back every claim we make.
From the laboratory to the bar, the campus, and the street.
DrugLab118 was founded in 2003 as the first company to commercialise rapid drink-spiking tests built on laboratory-validated methodologies. At a time when drink spiking was treated as an anecdote rather than a measurable harm, we set out to build the detection infrastructure that evidence-based policy would eventually require.
Over 25 years, that infrastructure has grown into three product lines — DrinkDetective, DrugDetective, and FentanylDetective — developed and produced in Great Britain by SureScreen Diagnostics, and validated against GC/MS laboratory reference methods. DrugLab118 holds USA patent protection on both DrinkDetective and DrugDetective, and our technology is now used by police forces, councils, and major venues across the UK, with white-label partners operating on three continents.
We did not build this company for the laboratory. We built it for the environments where people are most vulnerable — the bar, the campus, the festival, and the street — and for the moment, now arriving through UK legislation and licensing reform, when institutions are finally required to demonstrate the safeguards they claim to have.
The people behind the chemistry.
Colin Lyon
Founded DrugLab118 in 2003 to bring forensic-grade drug detection out of the laboratory and into the hands of the people and institutions who need it most. Colin leads the company's strategy, product development, and institutional partnerships worldwide.
Jim Campbell
Oversees the forensic chemistry behind every DrugLab118 product, including GC/MS comparison testing, cross-reactivity studies, and the validation work that underpins our evidence pack.
Seymour Ferreira
Leads DrugLab118's work with policymakers, licensing authorities, and institutional buyers — translating the shifting policy landscape into practical detection programmes for universities, venues, and law enforcement.
SureScreen Diagnostics
DrugLab118's chemistry is developed and produced in Great Britain by SureScreen Diagnostics — a British forensic diagnostics manufacturer whose technical review underpins our published validation data.
